Laser Hair Removal

Although laser hair removal may sound scary, it is actually one of the gentlest and the most effective methods of hair removal available. Unlike other methods such as waxing and shaving, laser hair removal gives long lasting results. You will be excited to know that the technology we use is painless and also the safest option currently available on today’s market.

SHR Technology

Super Hair Removal is a relatively newer technology which uses gentler pulses of energy but at a higher frequency.

This allows the skin to be heated gently, but with the rapid pulses, the energy is the accumulated by the skin.

While 50% of the energy is targeted at the melanin (similar to IPL), the other 50% targets the stem cells responsible for hair production.

This is a particularly important point to note as SHR thereby targets both fine and coarse hairs.

Ultimately this leads to less discomfort and pain, yet an improved efficiency.

Because of the gradual accumulation of the energy into the skin there is less trauma and irritation on the skin – making it ideal and suitable for everyone regardless of their skin type and even for customers with sensitive skin.

The SHR’s capabilities are used extensively for additional aesthetic applications, including skin rejuvenation, pigmentation and dark spot removal, red veins/spider vein treatment, skin tightening, re-contouring, and treating acne scarring.

A course of 6 is recommended

How does it work?

A wavelength of light hits the hair follicles which then inhibits the hair’s ability to grow, while the skin’s surface may get warm during the treatment it will remain unmarked and undamaged. This treatment targets the roots beneath the surface of the skin using a medical grade laser to prevent regrowth.

The hair follicle must be targeted at a specific time during its growth cycle to prevent the hair from returning. As individual hairs could be in different parts of the hair growth cycle at any one time, you will need several treatment sessions to see long-lasting results. We usually recommend 6-8 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart.

The number of treatments required varies from client to client and will be discussed during your consultation and reviewed during the treatment process but we usually recommend a course of six treatments for best results.

Depending on the size of the area to be treated, the time varies from 15 to 30 minutes for smaller areas and up to an hour for larger areas.

Skin can become more sensitive in some areas of the body more than in others and redness can occur as a side effect.

SHR is one of the only treatments available offering suitability for ALL skin types. Remember, this method involves heating and cooling as opposed to follicle exposure via high intensity pulses. This option works extremely well for fair-haired people whilst posing no issues at all during the summer months when tans have developed. The procedure is suitable all-year round.

SHR only uses low fluence light during the service, clients will feel a sense of warmness. IPL (intense pulsed light) uses high fluence light that could cause burns (especially on dark skin tones) and pain. In terms of the effectiveness, SHR releases 10-20 shots per second, whilst IPL only release 2-4 shots per second. SHR clients will see results by the second session, SHR motion technology will also cut down treatment time yet maintain its optimal efficiency in comparison with IPL.

Yes, SHR totally helps when it comes to the reduction of ingrown hair. For even better results we suggest that you scrub 2 days before your session to help get rid of dead skin, this is so that the SHR light reaches the ingrown hair effectively. A recommended tip is to use brown sugar and aloe vera gel as a scrub, the brown sugar has whitening effects on the skin and is great for darker underarm areas.

Treatment with SHR is practically painless as opposed to treatment with the conventional IPL devices. On areas with dense hair growth, warmth from the light impulses is evoked and the light impulses may be felt to a much lesser extent than with laser or IPL.

Sun exposure, fake tanning, sunbeds, and hair removal creams should be avoided at least one week before initial treatment and throughout the treatment period.  Hairs should not be waxed or plucked less than 6 weeks before treatment.  Shaving is allowed any time.  Areas to be treated should be shaved the day before your appointment.  Certain medications can make skin more susceptible to damage and we will need to be aware of all medication.
